Achilles tendonitis is a condition that stems from wear to the achilles tendon and/or its sheathe. This damage usually stems from a rapid increase to your exercise routine, but it can also stem from overuse. When you start feeling pain in your tendon, you should not try to muscle through the pain. instead, you need to take action to allow the tendon to heal and to strengthen it.

While orthotics should help to straighten your footfall, they should not be seen as replacements for physical therapy. 

The Role of Physical Therapy

As explained above, orthotics can help to correct problems with your bone structure, but they will not necessarily increase muscle strength. To treat your tendonitis successfully, you need to learn stretches and exercises that will help to improve the function of your tendon and reduce the risk of future injury. 

The achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body--and for good reason. Your tendon provides structural strength to keep you upright, but it also plays a key role in providing the explosive energy needed for running and jumping. Because of the rigors placed on the tendon especially when you increase your exercise routine, injury is common. If you get injured, you don't have to look at it as the end of your physical aspirations. Instead, tendonitis should be seen as a temporary and treatable setback.
